Ultra Trail Spain is excited to announce this unique and exclusive training camp. We’ve teamed up with the Ultra Sierra Nevada races to bring you the opportunity to run on the course before the event as part of your pre-race build-up or an Adventure!.You will get to experience running in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountain range in southern Spain, from the foothills of Granada to the peak of Veleta some 100km away.

  • Running 20-30km every day

Ultra Sierra Nevada Running Camp - 4 days running / 2 days in Granada

Pre-race build-up or an Adventure!

Our multi-day journey will take us over changing landscapes as we weave our way from the amazing Alhambra Palace in the old city of Granada, through the olive groves, to the high summer pastures of the Sierra Nevada. The running will be great mountain training for whatever race you are thinking of tackling as we journey over some 6,000m of positive altitude during the course. We will tackle extreme altitude on summiting Veleta which is over 3,000m high (there will be the option to wait at Pradallano (2,200m) for those not acclimated to altitude).

This guided trail run is designed for runners in training, with some trail experience, who want to practice on the Ultra Sierra Nevada course or simply to enjoy running each day in a stunning area.The route is on a mixture of firm trail, wide tracks, and plenty of single track. There is minimum road, in villages. As the ascent increases there are some rocky and sometimes technical sections.
Runners’ minimum fitness level – As a guide, runners should be able to maintain around six minute/ km flat road pace for 20km or more. Your trail pace will be much slower. We will be covering the course at the minimum pace at which runners can complete the actual USN race comfortably in the time allowed.

Itinerary 

Runners have the option to arrive either on Saturday or Sunday (price remains the same).

Saturday 27th May 

  • Airport pick up for arrivals in Malaga and Granada
  • Arrive and spend time in the historic city of Granada relaxing at your leisure

Sunday 28th May 

  • Airport pick up for arrivals in Malaga and Granada 
  • Arrive and spend time in the historic city of Granada relaxing at your leisure
  • Welcome evening meal

Running commences Monday 29th May 2017

DAY 1 (Monday)  Granada to Beas de granada – daily distance around 24km
DAY 2 (Tuesday)  Beas de Granada to Quentar – daily distance around 23km
Day 3 (Wednesday) Quentar to Guejar Sierra – daily distance around 23km
Day 4 (Thursday) Guejar Sierra to Pico de Veleta down to Pradallano – daily distance around 30km (Note: Last 10km – ish to summit Pico de Veleta is at extreme altitude up to 3,200m)

Friday 2nd June 2017 –  depart for airport, unless staying extra days

Included:

The guiding services of an experienced trail runner who has run the full 2016 Ultra Sierra Nevada course. Daily luggage transfers to your next overnight’s accommodation. Hotel accommodation for 6 nights including bed and breakfast based on shared twin rooms. Bed and breakfast, picnic lunches on running days, and welcome evening meal on the Sunday night are included.

Not Included:

Flights, travel insurance, evening meals (aside from Sunday night welcome meal), extra snack food/ sport food while running, any cable cars used (Veleta optional) and personal expenses.

Accommodation

In Granada you will stay in a centrally located city hotel. There are plenty of places to eat and explore nearby. While on the trail you will stay in comfortable small 2* hotels located in rural mountain towns, close to small shops, bars and restaurants. All rooms are based on two persons sharing. Single rooms are available for a supplement of 180 euros.

Weather

The Sierra Nevada is mainland Spain’s most southerly mountain range, so summer weather is usually fairly predictable. You are however in mountainous terrain and the weather can change rapidly. Temperatures in May / June can reach 30C in the day and possibly as low as 10C at night. It is mainly sunny and clear but it can rain so your kit should reflect all eventualities. We’ll ensure you carry the minimum each day but it would be wise to be prepared.

Luggage

On each day there will be a support vehicle carrying your luggage forward. Please ensure your luggage meets standard airline carry-on specifications. There is also the option to travel forward with the bags is you are feeling tired, injured, or wanting a rest day.

Minimum numbers

This event will proceed once a minimum of two clients have booked. Maximum number is eight.

Please note flights are most likely to be in and out of Malaga. Granada is easily accessed by coach transfer from Malaga airport, we will also be operating pick-ups from Malaga and Granada airports at scheduled times.

Health Insurance

It is important that you are insured for the activities you will undertake. You are required to purchase travel insurance to cover medical expenses for trail mountain running while abroad since you will be running at altitude. There are many good options available. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.

(OPTIONAL) In addition to the above adventure, you can enter Ultra Sierra Nevada race – 14 & 15 July 2017

USN race entries open in December. The 2016 ultra edition sold out quickly. Whilst we are not involved with the organisation of the race, for those signing up to our running camp before the race entries open, we will pass your contact email to the USN organisers. They will contact you to ensure you have opportunity to register for the race. Booking Conditions

ULTRA TRAIL SPAIN

Ultra Trail Spain provides running holidays & walking holidays and performance run coaching in and around Andalusia, Spain.

BOOKING POLICY

  • Full payment is due 30 days prior to the start of the holiday/ training camp.
  • Failure to pay the outstanding balance by the due date may mean forfeiting your place on the holiday/ training camp and forfeiting any deposit.

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • 100% refund if cancellation occurs 45 days or more prior to start date*
  • 50% refund if cancellation occurs between 28 and 44 days prior to start date*
  • 25% refund if cancellation occurs between 21 and 27 days prior to start date*
  • 0% refund if cancellation occurs within 21 days of start date
* Less Paypal, accommodation, and any other administration fees

We cannot guarantee refunds within 21 days of holiday/ training camp start date but we understand that runners/walkers can get injured. We therefore try to support our participants and do what we can. It may be possible for you to transfer your place to a friend, so please do contact us in case of injury closer than 21 days of holiday/ training camp start date.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Ultra Trail Spain takes your safety and wellbeing very seriously, however it and its agents cannot be held liable for any loss, damage, injury, or illness caused as a result of any careless, reckless or negligent act you may undertake. You are advised to follow the safety instructions of staff.

On registering for a running / training camp / walking holiday you are stating that you are in a suitable physical condition, without medical contraindications precluding you from running / walking activities. You will be required to complete a medical evaluation in your assessment form before arrival. You are advised to notify Ultra Trail Spain of any changes to this. You will be required to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire on arrival.

Running / Walking is recognized as a safe outdoor activity, however there is a risk of tripping or falling. We ask you to sign a liability waiver on arrival and require you to organize sufficient travel / medical insurance. Registration in an Ultra Trail Spain holiday / training camp assumes acceptance and compliance of these terms and conditions.

HEALTH INSURANCE

It is important that you are insured for the activities you will undertake during your holiday. You are required to purchase travel insurance to cover medical expenses for trail running / trail walking while abroad. For EU citizens it is good practice to carry your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you.

ITINERARY CHANGES

Ultra Trail Spain reserves the right to alter programs and itineraries due to weather or other conditions outside our control, to ensure the safety of participants and staff. No responsibility is accepted for losses, expenses due to delays, changes of flights or other services due to circumstances outside our control.

OUR INSURANCE

Ultra Trail Spain has comprehensive liability insurance and operates under the conditions of this policy. 

PRIVACY POLICY

Ultra Trail Spain takes your privacy seriously. We will never sell or distribute information, personal or otherwise, you disclose to the company. We do however maintain accurate and up-to-date records for the purposes of marketing and communication with current and former clients. We will ask your permission at the start of your running holiday/ training camp / walking holiday to use any images and digital media gathered during the course of the program for future use in marketing and promotional purposes. This includes posting on social media.
