Heat training know-how - RUNNING TRAINING CAMP (approx £553)
Many ultra runs, particularly multi-day running events, are run under the sun. It’s an added challenge to runners but one which you can embrace and use to your advantage. Ultra Trail Spain has put together this special performance training camp. Heat Training Know-how focuses specifically on this challenge to trail runners, looking at how you can prepare, strategies you can adopt mid-race, and why heat can be your running friend.
Both Steve and Sarah have experienced running in the Middle East in the height of summer. We know heat (and humidity) and during Heat Training Know-how we’ll draw on our knowledge of running and training in extreme temperatures.
Yes, June in Spain will be hot, but the temperature will be manageable. We’ll put in plenty of quality trail runs, safe in the knowledge that we’ll be able to top up fluid supplies and sunscreen every 10km.
And as an added advantage you’ll be training at moderate altitude – a big fitness training boost for those visiting from sea level.
And of course, this performance training camp is also your holiday vacation and a chance to top up your tan while on the run.
During Heat Training Know-how, we’ll go through some of the strategies to help you adapt to run and perform more effectively in the heat. We’ll be training, running some outstanding trails in moderate to hot temperatures every day. This course will seriously boost your fitness, preparing you for Summer races no matter how hot they may get.
12-16 June 2017
Training Camp Duration:
- Starts: 3:00pm Monday 12th June
- Finishes: 1:00pm Friday 16th June
Ability of runners
This training holiday is suitable for novice and intermediate runners who want to develop their natural heat adaptation. (Trust us, you all have some). You do not need to have run an official ultra/ marathon in order to take part in this camp, but we suggest that you will get the most out of the training if you have run/ walked 30km at some point within the last four months.
Our training playground
Moclín is the ideal trail running training base. The diverse terrain will help you to get experience over a variety of topography, such as you may experience in a trail ultra. The trails vary from pine woodland and rocky exposed routes to wide rolling tracks through the olive groves.
Each day’s running will last between 2-3 hours (depending on your ability). We will monitor daily forecasts and ensure water/ cooling breaks are increased should be needed. In Heat training know-how we’ll take a look at some of the key strategies you can adopt to improve your performance during hot weather as well as key strategies to help you cool down and recover.
We’ll have event specific talks and discussions with topics including the benefits of heat training, how your body copes, effective hydration and fuelling, skin and blister care, and clothing.
This is an intensive course and we want you to get the most out of it, however, the historic town of Moclín is well-worth exploring and we will try to incorporate castle and museum tours with English guides into the schedule.
