Introduction to ultra running - RUNNERS TRAINING CAMP (approx £553)
Are you a keen runner thinking about making the step up to the ultra distance (50km plus) and not sure where to begin? Ultra Trail Spain to the rescue! We’re both mad keen on the challenge of the ultra distances. We love nothing better than lacing up, hitting the trails for a long run, and have competed in ultra races in the UK, Europe and Asia. During this intensive running course we’ll focus purely on breaking into ultra-running and how to go about tackling those longer races. And we’re sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised that with some forethought training doesn’t need to be as tough as you might think. Preparing for an ultra run is all about focusing on quality training, enjoying the journey, and preparing yourself with a positive mental attitude.
While this performance training camp is a chance to focus and run hard, it’s also a holiday vacation and a chance to have fun and enjoy the trails. As an added bonus, you’ll be running at an altitude your training will benefit from, especially if coming from sea level.
20-24 March 2017
Our Introduction to Ultra Running is an intensive short-course to give you the confidence to tackle that first trail ultra. It will help you to develop your overall fitness and prepare you for that event. We’ll take a look at some of the key training sessions for ultra runners, discuss injury prevention, functional strength, and learn key tools you can employ on race day.
Training Camp Duration:
- Starts: 3:00pm Monday 20th March
- Finishes: 1:00pm Friday 24th March
Ability of runners
This training holiday is suitable for novice and intermediate runners keen to make the move up to ultra distance. You do not need to have run an official marathon in order to take part in this camp, but we suggest that you will get the most out of the training if you have run/ walked 30km at some point within the last four months.
Our training playground
Moclín is the ideal trail running training base. The diverse terrain will help you to get experience over a variety of topography, such as you may experience in a trail ultra. The trails vary from pine woodland and rocky exposed routes to wide rolling tracks through the olive groves.
Each day’s running will last between 2-3 hours (depending on your ability). Don’t worry we’ll make sure you’re ready for it. In preparing for ultra-running we’ll take a look at some of the key training sessions you can use to build for race success. We’ll also incorporate some specific strength and condition sessions, with ideas for you to take away and build into your own training plan.
We’ll have event specific talks and discussions to help you prepare for your race. Topics include mental preparation, what and when to eat while running, effective hydration, and race day strategy.
This is an intensive course and we want you to get the most out of it, however, the historic town of Moclín is well-worth exploring and we will try to incorporate castle and museum tours with English guides into the schedule.
